Turn-based strategy games Games by genres

Turn-based strategy is a popular genre of video games and a subgenre for strategy games. In comparison with another popular strategy - real-time strategy - in this type of games the players are making their moves in turn (that is one after another). Usually, TBS games have the warlike atmosphere, like in Medieval II: Total War, and plot, but not always.
Turn-based strategy is not only the genre of video games. First of all, such strategies were the board games, for example, chess. But now turn-based strategy video games are very popular, so this term usually concerns to them, like to Galactic Civilizations II.
One of the main signs of TBS games is the non-importance of time. Of course, each gamer should make his move during the definite time, like in Fallout 2, but this period is rather long in turn-based strategies, so your victory doesn't depend on fast moves and good reaction. The gamer can play with other people (one or several) via Internet, or with AI. In many TBS games these two modes can be combined or gamer may choose the one he likes more, as in Heroes of Might and Magic 3.
Due to the high popularity of these games all the gamers go to websites where they can download free turn-based strategy games or buy turn-based strategy games. There are a lot of TBS games for PC, but also many such games were released exclusively for consoles.
The most iconic turn-based strategy game is Napoleon: Total War.
