A visual novel, also known as a sound novel, is an interactive game, featuring mostly static graphics, most often using anime-style art or occasionally live-action stills (and sometimes video footage). As the name might suggest, they resemble mixed-media novels.
Visual novels are often produced for video game consoles, and more popular games have occasionally been ported to such systems. Famous visual novels are also often adapted into the light novel, manga or anime formats. The market for visual novels outside of East Asia is small, though the number of anime based on visual novels are popular among anime fans in the Western world.
Due to the high popularity of these games all the gamers go to websites where they can download free visual novels or buy visual novels. There are a lot of visual novels for PC, but also many such games were released exclusively for consoles.
