Battlefield and Call of Duty are the most popular series of multiplayer military shooters, in which you as a player are involved in an almost real and very challenging battle. But the most desperate wars are not inside the games - the developers are fighting against each other for the love of gamers.
This year both game developers have presented us new instalments in the series of shooters. Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts were released for the current generation of consoles and PC at the beginning of November, and the versions for Xbox One and PS4 are coming very soon. And already now GameSpace is ready to present you our comparison - Battlefield 4 vs. Call of Duty: Ghosts. Which shooter is better this year? Let's try to find out together.
Story
Both Battlefield and Call of Duty series are about multiplayer battle. However, it sounds a little bit strange not to add any single-player experience in the modern and the rather expensive games, so the developers are trying to create something that will look like the full-fledged campaign for a lone gamer. This time Call of Duty developers were very close to the nice single-player and created unique and not very trite story. You will be a soldier of the U.S. army, and you will be fighting against the South Americans in the not-so-distant future. Moreover, you will be able to explore different exciting locations during your mission, for example, dive to the ocean, fly in the helicopter and even try yourself in a space battle. Also several times you will be able to change your character and play as a dog (you know about it, don't you?) or as another hero.
In Battlefield 4 the story is much more hackneyed. You will also join the U.S. army, but in this game you will be fighting against "mysterious" Chinese general (he has been mysterious only the first 20 times). While in Call of Duty: Ghosts you will be fighting against the background of the demolished America, in Battlefield 4 you will travel to Asia. During this single-player mission you will be able to explore a plenty of various locations and try many weapons and vehicles. However, it is the only one advantage of Battlefield 4. Moreover, this campaign lasts about 4 hours. And Call of Duty: Ghosts didn't really leave the competitor far behind, because you will spend about 5 hours on the single-player mission of the latter one.
Multiplayer
But as we have already mentioned, these shooters were created for the online battle. So, what about it? The developers of Call of Duty: Ghosts have decided to focus its shooter on the team work, so if you like to play as a lone wolf, it will be harder now. Also the developers have implemented interesting and rather challenging Extinction mode, in which you will be fighting against aliens. The other things are not really better than in the previous instalment of the series. Here you will find many not really various and exciting maps and the usual Call of Duty graphical and sound experience, about which we will tell you a little bit later.
In Battlefield 4 the maps were created much more carefully, and so you will really enjoy their variety. On different maps you will be able to play in various ways, and even the single map can change from one battle to another. In Battlefield 4 the developers have announced Levolution - the system that allows you to destroy almost everything that is on your way, and using it, you will be able to change the "face" of the map, which has an influence on the battle itself. We can tell you much more, but it is better to try different Battlefield 4's maps and to learn by yourself.
However, even while Battlefield 4 is better by this criterion, it also has many disadvantages. The main problem is numerous bugs, but we believe that soon, after a couple of add-ons and patches, the game will be cool.
Weapons and vehicles
Both Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 have a lot of different weapons and vehicles (just there are a few more vehicles in the last one). And in both games the weapon was created rather qualitatively. It fires, it hits the marks, it sounds good, but in Battlefield 4 it also has the realistic recoil. In Call of Duty: Ghosts you still play with a toy rifle.
Graphics
We know that graphics is not the most important thing in the game, but good graphics definitely makes the gaming process much more exciting. In Battlefield 4 the developers used Frostbite 3 - new gaming engine that allows Levolution and really great picture. Moreover, the developers are changing the weather during multiplayer battles and allow you to blow up almost any object on your way. What about Call of Duty: Ghosts? Well, it looks pretty like Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Maybe, a little better, but definitely not like the next-gen.
Sound
Battlefield is known because of the perfect and realistic sound, and this year's game is also cool by this criterion. In Call of Duty: Ghosts the sound is good too, but maybe not so nice as in Battlefield 4. However, Ghosts has a perfect musical illustration during the whole game and not only in the trailer with Eminem.
System requirements
Although Battlefield 4 has a better graphics, the game requires a little less RAM than Call of Duty: Ghosts. The minimal requirements for the latter one include 64-bit CPU, 6GB of RAM and 40GB of hard disk. The minimal Battlefield 4 requirements are: 34-bit or 64-bit CPU, 4GB of RAM and 30GB of free space.
In conclusion
No matter what we will say here, because even after thousands of reviews both games - Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts - will have their fans. In our opinion, Battlefield 4 is better this year, but it still has many problems. Call of Duty: Ghosts made a huge leap in comparison with the previous instalments in the series, but still it is not perfect. The decision is up to you.
